A Full-Year Profit That One Quarter Nearly Erased
Bengal Tea & Fabrics posted a Rs 4.49 crore profit for FY26 and a recommended Rs 1.50 dividend, results the board put to shareholders at its August 7 annual meeting, after a fourth quarter that lost Rs 11.40 crore.
Bengal Tea & Fabrics Ltd returned to profit in the 2025-26 financial year, results the board put before shareholders at its annual meeting on Friday, after a fourth quarter that lost Rs 11.40 crore on its own.
The company, a small listed Indian tea grower with gardens in West Bengal, held its 43rd annual general meeting on Friday, August 7, at 11:00 a.m. Indian time, where the board asked shareholders to approve the full-year results first declared in May and a final dividend of Rs 1.50 per equity share. One crore is 10 million rupees; one lakh is 100,000.
Net profit for FY26 was Rs 4.49 crore (about US$540,000), against a net loss of Rs 1.67 crore the year before, according to ScanX Trade's July 13 report on the results. Revenue from operations fell to Rs 52.53 crore from Rs 54.16 crore in FY25, so the swing to profit came without any growth in sales. Profit before interest, depreciation and tax rose to Rs 12.09 crore from Rs 10.54 crore.
The full-year profit of Rs 4.49 crore followed a fourth-quarter loss of Rs 11.40 crore, so the first nine months of FY26 produced roughly Rs 15.9 crore of profit, most of which the January to March quarter then removed. Neither the company nor the reports on its results give a stated reason for the fourth-quarter loss.
The earlier quarters were themselves not carried by the tea business. In the third quarter, net profit of Rs 4.81 crore rested largely on other income of Rs 6.36 crore, about 78 per cent of the Rs 8.17 crore profit before tax, MarketsMojo said in a February 7 analysis of those results. The same analysis put the operating margin at 12.83 per cent in the third quarter, down from 25.00 per cent in the second, with employee costs running at about 31 per cent of net sales that quarter.
The dividend carried a record date of July 31, 2026, and a total payout of about Rs 1.35 crore, ScanX Trade reported.
The FY26 figures describe a year whose profit was largely earned outside the gardens in its first nine months, then lost in its last three. The outcome of Friday's shareholder vote had not been reported as of this writing.
